On June 30, 2003 the Washington State Department of Transportation released its semi-annual Stale-by-
State Fuel Tax Comparison Report to fairly assess and compare Washington's fuel tax to that of the other
49 states and the District of Columbia. As shown below, Hawaii ranks #1 in the natipn in Combined
State and Local Fuel Tax Rates. Information was gathered from the Commerce ClectrinX Mouse State Tux
Guide, data from individual states, and telephone interviews with officials in selected stags.
