Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
At this time, Mayor Kim would like to withdraw the nomination of Pastor Ernie
Cruz to the County of Hawaii Police Commission. (Re: Communication 588.)
The Mayor just received a letter from Pastor Cruz declining his nomination to the
commission. Attached is the letter submitted to the Mayor. Please accept Mayor
Kim's apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
A new nomination will be submitted for Council confirmation shortly. If you have
any questions, please contact me at your convenience.

Dear Mayor Kim,
I am deeply honored to be nominated to the County of Hawaii Police Commission.
However I regretfully cannot accept the nomination. After careful consideration and
prayer I feel that my commitment to the ministry at New Hope Puna is such that I
wouldn't be able to devote the time and energy I feel would be needed to serve on the
Police Commission. I hope I haven't caused any confusion or inconvenienced you or
the council in any way.
I have spoken with realtor Bob Riley of Hawaii Land Realty about this position and he is
receptive and would be honored to be nominated. He has lived and worked in Puna for
over 30 years, working very closely and helping to guide people in their lives. He has
been very successful and he has a heart for Puna. You can reach Mr. Riley at his place
