Special Management Area Use Permff and = r' County Rezoning (A-5o TO RS-7.5) cY~ Dear County Council Commfftee on Planning and Chairman Elarlonoff, - 0 Please be responsible. Do not approve this project for the following reasons: 1) MORE DEVELOPMENT ON ALII DRIVE MEANS MORE CARS AND MORE CARS MEANS THAT PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS WILL BE AT A GREATER RISK OF BEING KILLED. 58 more homes mean an oddfHonal 116 cars (2 cars per household) and an additional 693 trips (116 can ~ b Mps per day) along AIB Dfire. More development always means more can and more can on ABi Drive means that pedesMans and bicyclists are at a greater risk of being killed. We had a recent pedestrian death this year and several pedesfrian deaths over the last several yeah on Altf Drive all because of vehicles. Enough afready! 2) LUNAPULE ROAD AND ROYAL POINCIANA DRIVE ARE ALREADY OVERBURDENED WITH TRAFFIC. When the council voted to close off a very important mauka makai route through Kahakai Estates back in December 1998 they failed to inform the 100 people who aHended the hearing that they had already approved several supersized condominium protects along Alii Drive which sprung up soon after. Traffic from these projects continues to heavily impact both Lunapule and Royai Poinciana today. Both old roads were not buiff to handle the 5000 plus vpd that travel them. Lunapule doesn't even have shoulders for pedesMans and residents on both roads have a difflcuff time extffng from their driveways due to the increased Taffc. Allowing more development along Alii Drive pours even more frafflc onto Lunapule and Royal Poinciana. Be responsible. Do not approve this project. 3) THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS CREATED BY THIS PROJECT ARE MUCH MORE SERIOUS THAN THE ONES CREATED BY THE NANI KONA AINA PROJECT. This means that ff you are going to vote against approving Nani Kona Aina then you must do the same for Lehua Lani. It is the responsible thing to do at this time.
