Re: Capital Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance adding the Pualani Estates Subdivision Playground
Development project for $100,000 to the Capital Budget. A park will be constructed in the
Pualani Estates Subdivision to help fulfill the recreational needs of the commiunity
residents. Although playground equipment was not part of the requirements of the
subdivision agreement, the Department of Parks and Recreation would like tp support the
installation of a children's playground by utilizing fair share assessment fundiing for this
purpose.

A. REQUEST:
To create a $100,000 appropriation to purchase and install playground equipment at the park in the Pualani
Estates Subdivision.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
A park will be constructed in the Pualani Estates Subdivision to help fulfill the recreational needs of the
community residents. Although playground equipment was not part of the requirements of the subdivision
agreement, Parks and Recreation would like to support the installation of a children's playground by utilizing
fair share assessment funding for this purpose.

PROJECT/PROGRAM DESCR7PT/ON:
Development of a children's playground area for the North Kona community at the new park site. The project proposes to use a combination of
contractor and volunteer labor to create one. or possibly two, playground equipment areas specifically targeting children between the ages of 5-12 and 2-
~ . Appropriate considerations for accessibility (routes, etc.) and safety amenities will be included.
PROJECT/PROGRAM JUSTIFICAT/ON:
Inadequate Service: Development of playground equipment meeting industry safety standards and appropriate regulations to provide safe and healthy
