Please vote down Bill 178 and deny the zoning change.
237 people attended a public heanng on O'oma m January in Kona, despite foul weather, and
most of them spoke against the project.
The O'oma issue should not be brought up again anywhere--especially not in Hilo, where the
people most affected must drive 5 hours round trip to be heard
The last thing this area of Kona needs is what Clifto's is proposing. amega-shopping/
commercial center, 400,000 square feet of commercial activity, 400 hotel rooms, 230 houses,
and 1000 more cars.
Clifto's intentions are not m line with the best interests of the community
Clifto's resisted invitations to join a decades-long community effort to keep the area safe
and clean. They only joined when threatened with legal action
Cliftds does not plan to keep the land, but to sell it Kona residents will pay for Clifto's
profit with their time--spent sitting in more traffic
In addition, Clifto's has apparently withdrawn plans to contribute public park space.
In theory, development like this brings in tax money to pay for adequate infrastructure. But ask
the people sitting in 20 miles of bumper to bumper traffic from Keahole Airport to Kealakekua if
this theory works.
,4nd ask people why they visit Hawaii. or live here. They will tell you about the beautiful and
unspoiled places--not about the traffic.
Kona does not need more sprawl, traffic, and environmental damage. Please vote down this
zoning change.
