Subject: BILL #178, REZONING REQUEST
April 19, 2004
County of Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii
Honorable Chairman James Arakaki and the County of Hawaii County Council
Re: BILL #178, REZONING REQUEST FROM CLIFTO'S KONA COAST LLC FROM A MG3A
ZONING TO A PROJECT DISTRICT ZONING.
Please approve Bill #178. This is the rezoning request of Clifto's Kona
Coast LLC to change their existing zoning of MG3a to a Project District on
their 83-acre highway parcel, which is located on the South side of the
Natural Energy Lab of Hawaii.
We believe that Kona, North Kona and South Kohala are in desperate need of
alternative choices for housing, goods and services. We all are awaze of
the current, continuing and increasing traffic problems in West Hawaii.
Providing substantial goods and services six miles North of Kona is not only
very appealing but also extremely logical. The equitable distribution of
goods and services will greatly enhance our lives. There are literally
thousands of people who live in this area and have no choice but to drive
into Kona for their needs. With the passage of Bill #178, thousands of cars
will no longer drive into Kona and adversely impact the only two roadways.
The result that this project would have on the traffic issues and quality of
life for us is immeasurable. We also support Clifto's Kona Coast LLC's
offer to provide 20% of his multi-family units to be deemed 'affordable
housing' which is double the requirement. This will greatly assist the many
needy families with their battle in the ever increasing cost of living in
Hawaii.
Again, we need your help to improve our lives and the lives of the people of
Hawaii whom you have been elected to protect and represent. With all the
residential projects totaling thousands of units that have zoning in place
and are going to be built in the very neaz future in West Hawaii, we need
your support to approve this project so we can have a better choice for our
vital goods and services. Please approve this rezoning request.
Please contact me if you have any questions or desire additional
information.
