Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
RE: NOMINATION OF BERNARD M. KONANUI OF COUNCIL
DISTRICT 5 TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII WATER BOARD
I submit this letter in strong support of the nomination of Bernard M.
Konanui to the County of Hawaii Water Board.
I first met Bernard in 1987 when I began work with the Hawaii County
Prosecutor's Office. I was assigned to the Puna district. Bernard was a
detective with the Criminal Investigation Section, assigned to the Puna station.
Bernard and I worked very closely in the investigation and prosecution of
many felony cases over the years. Bernard was the lead detective in my first
murder case, State of Hawaii v. Paterno Castillo. Through Bernard's thorough
investigative efforts, we successfully convicted the defendant. He remains in
prison to this day.
In addition to Bernard's bulldog-like investigative skills, he is a wonderful
man. He is a good husband, father, and friend. He is never too busy to make
time to speak with you. Bernard will bring his professionalism and humble
character to the Water Board.
I respectfully ask the Council to confirm Bernard to this important position
on our County of Hawaii Water Board. Thank you for the opportunity to provide
input.
