Please let this be registered as pan of the above case.
I am a resident of Kailas-Kona I am very concerned about the development proposed for
the Nani Kona Alva parcel, now before the County Council It would be reasonable to
build individual homes here on multiple-acre lots. But I think it would be terribly
unreasonable to develop 36 10,000-SF lots on this i 4 acre parcel which does not have
proper access. The parcel has too many problems and too few benefits fot the people of
Kona. lr will not bring affordable housing, it will not lessen traffic congestion. And it will
cause the loss of critical habitat for the Hawaiian hoary bat and the Hawaiian hawk, both
Federally protected species.
The decision we make on this ]and now is crucial Please pay attcrrtion to what is
important in tbe long term -the quality of life for our community and the natural
environment of Hawaii. It is not the automatic tight of the owner ofthis property to
change the zoning from AgS. He knew the zoning when he bought it. It would be wrong
to build first, and then hold development occupancy hostage urlti! the developer cotnes up
with infrastructure solutions. This would be inviting legal battles and inadequate
infrastructure for years to come. It may also pass on legal problems to those who invest in
the homcs.
Please, please stop this proposed development and vote No. Thank you so much.
