Please allow me this opportunity to express my support for the approval of i3i11270. 'this
is a great opportunity for the votes of the County of Hawaii to oracle an amendment to
the County Charter that will establish a purmancnt, dedicated fund to preserve open
space, coaatlincs, natural lands, cultural areas, and other impottanl lauds for protection.
The public opinion poll conducted by Fairlmnk, I~Iaalin, Maullin & AssuciaWs bctweeu
March 30 -April 7, 2004 clearly indicates that "voters are overwhelmingly supportive of
such an amendment, with fully seven out of ten voters polled saying that thery would vote
in favor" of the croalion of such an emendmem. This ha.4 also bean the opinion of
virtually ell of residents and personal acquaintances that I have polled separately. As the
citizens of Maui and Kauat established in 2002, most everyone on this island feels that at
least one to two percent of the annual real property tax revenue should be dedicated to a
special Land Conservation Fund. ]t is ow opinion that Bi11270 should be approved in its
original eontoxt and placed on the ballot in November for the voters to decide.
Personally, I would like to see more coastal property set aside as public land for our
Children and future generations to enjoy. Hawaii is noted for iffi beautiful beaches and
unique shorelines. Preserving mono coastal properly will maintain lfie yuallty of life for
]Real i~esidauts and tvurisb alike. Scttin¢ aside additional coastal property and other lands
for public one will also help to preserve ow environment, ow culture and sttcngUten ow
economy. Bi11270 will help the residents of the Island of Hawaii maintain our special
relatianshlp to the lands we have all come to ohorish and enjoy.
