The Honorable ]amen Arakaki, President =
Members of the Hawaii County Coundl
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii
Dear Colleagues: _ -t
This letter supports without reservations Bill 270, that would establish a
permanent Land Protedion Fund.
My support for the Bill is based on the following considerations:
--Our oouMy needs a good balance of development and preservation
--The beauty of our island and the unique plants 8t animals are among the
reasons people want to visit the Big Island
--The cost for the Land Protection Fund, relatively speaking, is low for the
returns. It seems a good value for the public and a fairly innovative way to
achicwe end results in land protection in a positive way.
--The Bill gives the people, in essence, a chance to deride on creating such a
fund. This seems to me sound policy, in this instance.
I hope you and the Coundl will approve Bill 270.
lY yours
V
