My name is Karsn Goff, I am a resident of Kona and leave been wor)zing with the Koha~lii
'Ghana since 1990 to protect our natural and cultural reraurcee. Of apeaial interest to our organiza-
tion nre coastal ]and areas and beaches. These open nature] areas are community trsaniree as well ar
subrietenae and gathering glaaer. BII.i. 270 would provide n meahanirm for future protection of
some of the rpeoial areas on our island. Thir land proteotion fund concept ie already in place in the
counties of Mavi and Kauai and, xr appears from the survey of big island votese, seventy percent
{7b4'o) favor the establishment of such a fund for Hawai i ielaad. Those are the first loan] open space
funding measures passed in Hawai
Additionally, we support amending the County Charter to set aside into said fund, 1% of
property txx revenues each year for the rpeaifie use to purchase ]ands for public recreational use and to
protect environmentally cad hirterically significant ]ands for future generations. Approving T3i]l 270
and creating such a fund wound have an empowering impact upon the citizens of Hawai i and provide
visitors with living examples of our island's cultural heritage, natural and historic resources to enjoy
when they visi} our benutifu] island.

My name is Meile David. I reside in Kona at 78.6894 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa,
Hawaii %725 and expt+ess my support ofBill 270 that would establish a land protection
fund for the Island of Ilawai'i. This land protection fund concept is already in place in
the counties ofMeui and Kauai and, as appears from the survey of big island voters,
seventy pcrcerrt (70%) favor the establishment of such a fund for Hawaii island.
Additionally, I support amending the County Charter to set aside into said fund, 1 % of
property tax revenues each year for the specific use to pwchase lands for public
recreational use and to protect environmentally and historically significant lands for
futwe generations.
Approving Bill 270 and creating such. a fund would have an empowtring impact upon the
citizens of Hawaii and provide visitors with living examples of ow island's cultural
heritage, oatural and historic resources to enjoy when they visit ow beautiful island.
I strongly believe that Bill 270 will serve the greater community of Hawaii, protect and
preserve ow cultural and natural resources which in rum will stimulate and enhance ow
tourist industry and provide tongevity of our island's economy.
