Dear City Council Members,
I would like to support approval of Bill # 270 with an amendment
of the full 2% dedication from real property tax. The reasons I
support this action/bill are numerous. One is that too much land is
being sold for development without enough open space, without
preservation or consideration of irreplaceable forests (with many
endemic and endangered species), coastal areas of rare coastal
plants and special Hawaiian places such as burials, kuleana lands,
parks. This is just in my district
. Even when the right organization or groups try to protect,
manage, reforest and so on there is not enough funding for
anything to get done. The land, (our most precious resource) slips
through our fingers.
If there is not more control of the horrible growth spurt which we
are experiencing, I am afraid the Hawaii of my youth, my fathers
youth and heart will be gone.
