I am excited to voice my support for Bill 270! I so
much want to believe that my representatives in office
have the foresight to see the importance of this
legislation. Instead of focusing on fixing what's wrong
in Hawaii County, it is refreshing to think that we
might actually start legislating for a more progressive
and diverse island.
As the largest of the islands and also one of the less
developed, we have an opportunity to accommodate
both growth and preservation. We can keep our
beautiful beaches as natural retreats, our incredible
historic sites available for education and cultural
enrichment, our forests in their unique majesty, for
their recreation and all that they do as watersheds,
preventing erosion. We can protect our diverse wildlife
while providing open spaces for recreation. I want
Hawaii island to be what so many of us envisioned
moving here, or more important yet, what Hawaiians
know that it is. We are definitely part of a "united
states" but we are also a world away, an ever unfolding
paradise, offering our nation and the world a unique
tropical experience.
This bill renews my faith in living the adventure of
Hawaii. In a culture where money is everything and

developing is lucrative, there is no reason we shouldn't
believe that preserving this island's natural beauty,
culture, and resources, making them available to the
public, won't bring real fortune to Hawaii's shores.
