Re: Amendment to the Hawaii County Code
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending Chapter 2, Article 16, Section 2-97 of the
Hawaii County Code which relates to other allowable travel expenses. Currently, the cost
of renting a U-drive car and parking charges shall not exceed $50.00 per day. However,
due to rising rental car and parking rates, a $60.00 per day limit would be more
reasonable.
This amendment increases the allowable expenses for rental cars and parking charges
from $50.00 to $60.00 per day.

A. REQUEST:
An ordinance to amend section 2-97 of the County Code to increase the rental cost of U-drive cars and
parking charges limit from $50.00 a day to $60.00 a day.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED)'
Currently the cost of renting a U-drive car and parking charges shall not exceed $50.00 per day. Due to
rising costs $60.00 per day would be a more reasonable limit. Rental car and parking rates are both
increasing. As always, each employee is to determine the most cost effective means of travel for the County
(i.e. car rental vs. taxi fare).
