Dear Chairman Arakaki:
This firm represents Andrew D. Shaw, who is under contract to purchase the
subject 680+ acre parcel situate at Kaunaimano ("Property") from Kau Agribusiness Co., Inc. It
is our understanding that the Property's General Plan designation is proposed to be amended
from "Urban Expansion" to "Extensive Agriculture" under I-9 of the County of Hawaii General
Plan Revisions (11/15/01).
The on-going sale of large tracts of land by Kau Agribusiness in the Kau District
is expected to generate an urban expansion that will create a need for goods and services to
support ancillary community and public uses. Since the specific settlement pattern and types of
uses have yet to be determined, it is reasonable to retain the existing "Urban Expansion"
designation which allows for a mix of high, medium, low density and industrial uses.
We respectfully request that the County Council retain the existing General Plan
"Urban Expansion" designation for the Property. Thank you for your consideration.
