Deao~ COUncilmon Safarik,
The revised Sign Code which is ~ for consideration next week, is in~portarrt for our
island. Not only because of the rapid development and ir~fluz of new businesses, but
also because one of our n+a
jor indewtries is tourism.
2t is important that we remember that beauty is what visitors, and residents alike,
admire about the Big Tskmd. The proliferation of signs is destroying much of that
beauty and it seems sel# evident that keeping Our surroemd-ngs es dean. g~,en, and
b¢autiful as possible is definitely in our best interest.
We urge you and the Council to consider the long range positive impact Of
frairrtaining n good control over illegal signs. It has served many communities both on
the Mranland and Oahu wall, and helped to keep their communities attractive and
inviting,
With respect~,
