It may be hard to imagine Hawai' i Island with billboards -thankfully, due to the hard work of
The Qutdoar Circle and its branches throughout the state, we are free from this roadway blight.
However, we still have a mish-mash of sandwich boards and aesthetically unpleaaing signs that conflict
with our natural environment and uglify our rural environments and small villages.
Qf course signs are important to businesses, but the way signs are now used, it is a disincentive
to econemie development. This phenomenon is witnessed in the popularity of attractive shopping
centors like the Kin$ ~cjhops.
Currently, many signs simpl y confuse folks trying to find businesses and create traffic. hazards.
rjandwich boards are placed along our narrow shoulder, which in turn moves bicycle and pedestrian
traffic into the vehicular lane. The inconsistent signage uxd et many of the businesses in {~ona,
causes potential shoppers to drive erratically, which leads to the many fender benders that occur in this
area.
I~usinesses and the roadway environment would be much better off by creating uniform, visible
signs t c mplement the environment. I encourage your support for this sign cod= bill.
