Re: Testimony in Support of Bill 270
(Estab~hing a gnd Protection Fundl
Aloha Finance Chair and Committee members:
My name is Maile David. I reside in Kona at 78-6894 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa,
Hawaii 96725 and express my support of $111270 tbat would establish a land protection
fund for the 1'sland of Hawaii. This land protection fund concept is alzeady in place in .
the counties of Maui and Kauai and, as appears from the survey of big island voters,
seve~rty perceffi (70%) favor the establishment of such a fund for Hawaii island.
Additionally, I support amrnding the County Charter to set aside into said fund, 1% of
property tax revenues each year for the specific use to purchase lands for public
recreational use and to protect environmertta1ly and historically significant lands foz
future generations.
Approving $111270 and creating such a fund would have an empowering impact upon the
citizens of Hawaii and provide visitors with living examples of out island's cultural
heritage, natural and historic resources to enjoy when they visit our beautiful island
I strongly believe that Bi11270 will serve the gzeater community of Hawaii, protect and
preserve our cultural and natural resources which in turn will stimulate and enhance our
tourist industry and provide longevity of our island's economy.
I respectfully urge your favorable vote on Bi11270. h4ahalo a nui loa
SincerelC y,
Made P. David
