My name is Uoyd E. Case and I am a native of the Sig Island. 1 am very
much against bill # 270 because revenues flrom land taxes should not be
given to a non-profit orgarnzation in order to acquire access to state
]ands. Our tax dollars should be better spent on issues that benefit our
local people such as educatton or medical benefits for the elderly. Tlie
state is responsible for public access therefore 1t is not necessary for any
organization to acquire access to public lands. We don't need our tax.
dollars going to purchase land for protectton of natural habitats because
we already have thousands of acres already in protection. We have
national parks and refuge areas that arc also protected on the Hig Island.
This type of bill was passed in California. Many of the voters thought it
was a good bill however many fishermen lost their way of life because of
this bill. Hawaii should be cared for by its people and state agencies. not
by outside entities.
