RE: WRITTEN TESTIMONY IN RT OF RESOLCJTION 203-04
AUTIiORIZING T1dE ACQUISTI20N OF PRIVATE PROPERTY BY EMINENT
DOMAJN OR NEGOTIATION FOR THE PAHOA VILLAGE RESOURCE PARK
'Wednesday, July 7, 9:00 a.m.
Iiawai'i County Council Chambers, Hilo
My name is Trncie Yoshimoto and I am writing in support of Resolution 203-04, which would
authoxiZC the acquisition of private propcriy by eminent domain or negotiation for the Pahoa
Village Resource Park.
I live and work in Pahoa and have long standing family roots here going back four generations.
As child, I would visit my grandmother (who still resides in Pahoa) and my great aunt and uncle,
who where hard working farmers. We would walk from their plantation style houses, along the
narrow shoulder of the Pahoa town road to the nearby atom where we would visit my aunty,
who owned the beauty shop. I have fond memories of seeing elderly Filipino men sitting along
the sidewallc engaged in conversation. My grandmother would buy me a treat at the Cash and
Carry or an ice cream cone at Dairy Qveen.
Today, I live within walking distance of Pahoa town, and I can count on one hand the number of
times I will venture out to the town in one year. It, reputation precedes itself. And although I
know the community is making progress, and 1 have discovered treasures is the town,l feel
unessy about the thought of going there alone, or taking my two young sons with me. I also feel
a sense of guilt, as 1 don't know my own community.
The various seed strategy committees have been hard at work to create resources and programs,
and to beautify the community. The Pahoa Village Park goes hand in hand with our Weed &
Seed efforts. It will rum Pahoa into a hub of economic and community activities where people
can feel safe.
Please accept this as written testimony in support of this resolution. Thank you in advance for
your consideration. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely, ~~A
