RE: Bill No. 275 - Stree[ Addressing and Naming
Please find enclosed a copy a letter dated May 20, 2004 from Mayor Kim concerning Bill
No. 275 regarding street addressing and naming, which will be heard on second reading at the
July 8, 2004 meeting of the County Council.
At the previous meeting of the Council, Mr. Tyler asked if there were any other conflicts,
besides those mentioned in the letter from the Mayor, between this Bill No. 275 and the current
Hawaii County Code. We note that with regard to the conflict with Chapter 23 (Subdivision
Code), Section 23-49, the pending Subdivision Code revision bill will remove that conflict.
However, upon further review, we find that although a conflict with Chapter 22 (Streets
and Sidewalks) was cited in the letter, there was no mention of any action to remove the conflict
with Section 23-49. In addition, we find that another conflict exists in Section 23-94, which
states that the street name sign "created by the subdivider shall be subject to the approval of the
chief engineer and shall conform to the standard specifications on file at the department of public
works."
Please provide us with a proposal to remove this and any other conflict between this bill
and the current Code prior to the Council meeting on this matter scheduled for July 8, 2004. If
