RE: Your support for relocating Hilo Community College to Downtown Hilo
Dear Mr. Arakaki:
As an eighteen-year retailer in downtown Hilo, I have never seen such a downturn in
downtown Hilo vitality as in the least year. We have seen more business closures, more
vacant retail and office space and far less people on our sidewalks.
Relocating the community college to downtown would:
1. Breathe new life into Downtown Hilo.
2. Encourage landlords to invest in fixing up their buildings
3. Encourage support businesses to open up downtown locations such as office supply
retailers, restaurants, etc.
Look at how Hawaii Pacific University helped revitalize the Fort Street Mall of
Downtown Honolulu.
