These funds will be used to defray costs incurred by the Recreation Division's Honoka'a Summer Fun Youth Camp. This camp provided an opportunity for youngsters to experience camping and drug awareness education in a recreational environment. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the receipt and expenditure of the Bay Clinic's award of $1,000 and a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this award. REQUEST: To authorize receipt and expenditure of award made by Bay Clinic's Hawaii County Youth Anti-Drug Fund Community Grants Program. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDEDI The P&R Recreation Division submitted an application and was awarded a grant of $1,000 from the Bay Clinic's Hawaii County Youth Anti-Drug Fund Community Grants Program. The funds are derived from the federal government and will be used to defray costs incurred by the Summer Fun Youth Camp held in Honokaa on July 22, 2004. The camp was a healthy, anti-drug overnighter for the community's summer fun children in grades K through 6. Grant funds will be used to cover the cost of meals (dinner, breakfast & lunch), t-shirts and sleeping bags. The grant did not require a written agreement. The only stipulation is a report upon completion of the project. Explain: Explanation: Additional Comments about Grant: As many of the Honokaa Summer Fun younsters have not experienced camping, we will be having a camp out in the gym. 30-40 youngsters from Grades 1-6 are anticipated to attend.
