We are interested in the efforts of the Honoka a Community Sanitation Project to find a
solution to the wastewater disposal problem in Honoka'a. We ask that the County
Council provide any means of support necessary for a comprehensive solution to be
provided to the business community, the churches, community facilities and the
community at large that will be affected by the EPA ban on Large-Capacity Cesspools in
Hawaii and particularly in Honoka a.
We are interested, because as owners of the Hotel Honoka' a Club in Honoka' a we are
committed to work with the Honoka~a Business Association, the County, and the State to
develop a long term solution to sanitary waste for the community.
The Hotel has had four large volume cesspools on the property over the last 75 years.
Since we became owners in 1994 we have been trying to get the County or the State to
find a way to allow businesses on Mamane Street to access the sanitary waste system
developed by the Department of Health in 1994. We urge the County Council to assist
the Honokaa community in meeting this most urgent need.
