Dear Council Member:
Subject: Letter of Interest
Honokaa Community Sanitation Project
HCDCH Project -Hale Hauoli Elderly, 45-540 Kaniaka Place
We are interested in the efforts of the Honokaa Community Sanitation Project to find a ,
solution to the wastewater disposal problem in Honokaa. Hale Hauoli, an ekderly public
housing project in Honokaa consists of 40 units and is supported by several cesspools.
The project is located in close proximity to the Hawaii HeaRh Service Corporation's
sanitary waste system developed in the mid 1990's. We are hopeful that with our
participation in this effort we may be able to assist in the development of an
Implementation Plan to pool valuable resources that would meet the compliance
requirements of EPA and their impending deadline of April 5, 2005.
We ask that the County Council provide any means of support necessary for a
comprehensive solution to be provided to the business community, the churches,
community facilities and the community at large that will be affBCted by the EPA ban on
Large Capacity Cesspools in Hawaii and particularly in Honokaa.
Should there be any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Kevin Funasaki
at (808) 587-3177.
Sincerely,
rJv r.J~b
