SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21, OF THE HAWAfI COUNTY CODE
1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO APPROVAL OF EXTENSIONS OF THE
PUBLIC SEWER SYSTEM
Enclosed is a proposed wastewater ordinance unanimously supported by the Environmental Management
Commission and approved by the Mayor.

SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY
CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO APPROVAL OF EXTENSIONS OF
THE PUBLIC SEWER SYSTEM
Mayor Kim,
At the July 28, 2004 meeting of the Environmental Management Commission, a motion was made and
unanimously passed, in support of the enclosed Ordinance.
This amendment removes the requirement that all sewer extensions be approved by resolution of the
County Council. Since the Council approves expansions of the system primarily through the general plan
and various regional and facilities plans, this removes a cumbersome and duplicate requirement.
