Subject: Donation of Orangutan (RUSti) to the Panaewa
Rainforest Zoo
In reference to your letter to Mayor Stephen Yamashiro, dated
May 15, 1997, this is to confirm acceptance of the Orangutan
Foundation International's proposal to donate a single
orangutan, named Rusti, to the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo in late
January, 1998.
As proposed, the orangutan will be transferred to our premises
from the Honolulu Zoo, until such time a permanent orangutan
santuary can be established within our Zoo facility. we
appreciate the Foundation's willingness to bear all costs
relating to constructing a temporary structure, hiring an
animal keeper(s) and to train our County staff in handling and
care procedures.
Please let us know if there are any other procedural
requirements we need to pursue in preparing for the transfer.
