I amriling in support of the Bills listed above, all of which offer amendments to -
Chapt r 19 of the Hawaii County Code relating to Real Property taxes.
These Bills offer homeowners important options and methods to protect themselves
from tl ie pressures of increased real property taxes. The rapid increase in market
valuat ons caused by speculation and demand on Hawai'i Island, and the delay in
consic eration of these Bills, have worked together to result in abrupt tax increases.
The cl iange in implementation of Rule 7 was a necessary step to acknowledge the
growir g misuse of agricultural lands for residential development. Increases in
valuat ons are hot confined to rural areas, and all homeowners can use the relief offered
by the a Bills.
The mitigation offered by Bills 174, 175, 176 and 177 is an important part of the overall
tax reilorm package offered by this administration and I urge you to adopt them.
