The following are responses to Mr. Tyler's questions regarding Comm 784/Reso 246:
The Qounty was the recipient of two parcels of donated land in the Kalapana area. The land was assu ad to be
Inundated with lava. An adjoining landowner inquired several months ago about purchasing one parcel. As a resuit we
mSpepted the land and determined trtat It Is saleable property. The assessed values are $11,400 each.
The Land Management Committee does not have formal minutes. The Inquiry from the adjacent propel owner was
brought to the committee. After Inspection of the property, further research and discussion of the issue , the committee
recommended to the Director of Finance that the property be sold.
Sale of the parcels will generate additional revenue for the County in born the sale and in the subseque real pruperly lax
collections. The generation of additional revenue serves a public purpose by providing for maintenance of parks, repair of
public facilities, purchase of needed equipment for public safety and other county services.
The-,esponse to recent real estate foreclosure sales by the Real Property Tax division indicates that the a is a strong
market for parcels in the Puna district. A public auction can he expected to have a high level of participation. which will
result in a good price for the property. In this situation there is no advantage to sale by sealed bid or n otiation.
