Subjec : Support of the Affordable Housing Proiects by WestPro
Dear M .Arakaki and Members of the Council:
As a n five of Kona, I am disappointed in the severe crisis we are facing with the
lack of ffordable housing in west Hawaii. Today, it is extremely rare that a local
family an buy a home, let alone one that they can manage to pay for while
workin the normal 2 - 3 jobs each. It is an embarrassment to all of us as a
socie that our social and familial structures are being degraded to a point of
collap e.
What as once the pride of our islands has been reduced to a mere memory of ~ i
days I ng gone. The "aloha spirit" has been cast to the winds. These issues will
not s~ side until the basic elements of life are met The need for shelter falls on
the bo om of the hierarchal pyramid developed by Maslow. It is closely
associ fed with the need for food. When these basic survival needs are not met,
dysfuh tion is the ultimate result. We cannot continue on the road of displacing
our to I population. The disgrace of that will haunt this county, this island and
this s to for years to come.
Thoug this project is but a small step, it is a vital beginning in the right direction.
The wi dom of your decisions today will reflect the condition of our children's .
lives a d the lives of many citizens of Hawaii in the years ahead.
Pleases be proactive with your support and allow builders such as WestPro to help
our cofvtmunity achieve better harmony.
