Since 1987, only three new stations have been constructed:
South Kohala (1987)
Keauhou (1997)

And coming soon: Kalaoa -construction to begin before the end of the year;
positions already funded.
Transit Agency:
Federal funds:
• $2.3 million federal funds received in 2004 for capital improvements; $1.6 million (or
or 67%) of the funds will go to improve services in West Hawaii by purchasing new
vehicles and creating two park and ride lots.
Vehicle weight tax passed in 2004:
• Four new West Hawaii bus routes will be added with weight tax funds in early 2005.
This represents 90% of this year's weight tax for transit services.
