Attached is a letter that we sent to Chief Oliveira in regards to our need for a firehouse. Also attached are 389 signatures of concerned cities* more on the way. As you may know our fire truck sits outside and doesn't have a designated spot in the community for it. We are also aware that two ambulances and a brush truck in Na'alehu are also in the same predicament of having their equipment exposed to the elements. Although we are separate entities we have a common goal, which is to service the area between Pahala and Ocean View in rescue and firefighting. Here are some reasons for the need for a firehouse for the volunteers and the regulars of Na'alehu: 1. Security of our vehicles from vandals 2. Protection of the vehicles and equipment from the destructive weather elements of our area 3. Indoor maintenance area for vehicle and equipment so we are better prepared to protect our communities 4. Meeting place for volunteers educational purposes 5. Permanent staff housing and office 6. Educational area for free safety for the community members The Kau district of 5,827 people would also benefit, as we are support to both Pahala and Ocean View Fire Departments and are midway between them. We also protect the communities surrounding Na'alehu until Pahala and Ocean View Firefighters can reach the area. Attached are signatures of concerned citizens of our community of Kau.
