This project, entitled "Hawai'i County Fire Department Equipment Purchase" , is obligated $10,163.20 and will use the grant funds to eliminate the need to transfer patients from spinal immobilization boards to obtain x-rays by purchasing fifty (50) radio translucent spine boards. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai'i Department of Transportation for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the $10,163.20 to the Fire Department's Spine Board Grant account. REQUEST: Prepare a resolution authorizing the Fire Department to accept a grant of $10,163.20 from the U.S. Department of Transportation, through the State Department of Transportation, for the purchase of 50 radio translucent spine boards. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The National Highway Safety Act of 1966 provides Federal funds to states for approved highway safety projects. States may make said funds available to various political subdivisions for authorized projects. The State of Hawaii through its Department of Transportation has authorized a reimbursement project by the Hawaii County Fire Department for a project entitled "Hawaii County Fire Department Equipment Purchase". A total of $10,163.20 has been obligated to this project. The project period is 10/01/04 - 09/30/05. $10,000 will be used to purchase 50 radio translucent spine boards to be assigned to fire stations island-wide.
