Dear Councilmember Chung and Councilmembers,
I would like to apologize for my absence at this morning's Finance Committee meeting
when agenda items concerning the Fire Department were heard. 1 was attending a
scheduled union meeting where my presence was necessary.
Please relay my thanks to Councilmember Jacobson for sharing my thoughts with the
Naalehu community following our discussion on their concerns surrounding the need for
a new fire station. I will continue to listen to their concerns and address them as best
we can.
Just prior to Communication 832 (Bill 363) being heard before the Council, Fire Fighter
Neil Yoshioka, who is our Project Director for the project grant, left the Council
chambers to respond to a medical emergency. In response to Councilmember Tyler's
questions, the correct duration of the grant period is from October 1, 2004 to
September 30, 2005. His second question regarding the budgeted amount of $163.20
is for an air travel expense incurred when Fire Fighter Yoshioka attended a mandatory
grantee workshop on October 26, 2004.
