As frefghters concerned about the morale of our department due to suspicions o~g•~at

and favoritism on exams, we would like to offer the following suggestions for taking tcs o t ~
c;~
of the promotion process. ~

Suvvecoons for ig_the H F D promotion process
1) Interview board chosen randomly by Civil.Service; A~
Chiefs for captain promotion. Captains for FEO promotion.
2) Eliminate promotions without examination.
3) Na f:re department personnel to see written test before exam. Including Administration.
4) Civil Service to pick interview questions from NFPA standards.
S) Interview questions to be subjective since knowledge has already been tested on written test.
6) Interview board does not have access to questions prior to interview.
7) Establish fire commission. Decrease possibility of
fire administration being targeted for
political favoritism in the promotional process.
8) Ask that the results of Civil Service investigation be made public, we as firefighters deserve to
be kept informed of the events that affect us.
We feel that these suggestions will offer some ideas into preventing our department from
gaining a negative image in the eyes of the public.
