re: Resolution No. 114-97 - A Resolution Relating to the Preservation
of Huntina Rights in Hawaii
I am Isaac Fiesta, Jr. and I am here today on behalf of the ILWU Local
142, to testify in favor of Resolution 114-97, which is a Resolution
relating to the Preservation of Hunting Rights in Hawaii.
With the closure of three sugar companies along the Hamakua Coast
and in Ka'u within the last 2-1/2 years, our dislocated sugar workers
have had to deal with the lose of their jobs, loss of income and the
added stress of worrying about what it is doing to their families.
Some of these dislocated workers have had to turn to hunting and fish-
ing as a means of providing for themselves and their families. However,
in order for these hunters and fishermen to adequately provide for
their families, they need to be allowed access to areas where they can
hunt and fish.
We therefore ask for your full support of Resolution 114-97.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share our views.
