I have had the opportunity to have known Mr. Ashida since
January of 1992. At that time I began my career in County Service
with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. Mr. Ashida took a great
deal of time to share his experience and knowledge with me as the
new Lawyer in the office. His dedication and hard work were an
example to all of the other attorney's. He has a can do attitude and
looked to how problems could be solved through ethical principles
and justice for all of our citizens.
As colleagues we shared many difficult moments, but as easy
as it may be he never to this day has engaged in bad mouthing or
bashing any one he comes into contact with, but rather looks to
understand the nature of any difference in an effort to resolve the
issue for the benefit of all of us.
I transferred to the Office of the Corporation Counsel in
September of 2004. I have had the opportunity to observe his
performance as an administrator since that time. It is my opinion that
he has taken this office to new heights. He has imparted his work
habits, his sense of justice and his ethical considerations to all of the
employees and never shirks his responsibility reflecting always the
Office Motto, "We Are the Answer". He has infused the office with a
spirit of collaboration and as a result this office has the respect and
cooperation of the County Departments as well as the Citizens of the
Island of Hawaii.
It is without hesitation that I recommend Mr. Ashida to this
Council for appointment as Corporation Counsel.
