Councilmembers - .

Dear Chairman Safarik and Councilmembers:
Re: Confirmation of
Lincoln S.T. Ashida as Corporation Counsel '
I take great pride in asking for your support for the reconfirmation of Lincoln Ashida as
the Corporation Counsel. Although I have only worked in the Office of the Corporation Counsel
since September 2004, I have had more than enough time to observe what a true asset Mr.
Ashida is for our County.
Prior to becoming a Deputy Corporation Counsel under Mr. Ashida's leadership, I was an
associate attorney at a large law firm in Hawaii. On my first day as a Deputy Corporation
Counsel, I was amazed at how much more organized this office is than the private law office
from which I came. Since that time, I have observed a cohesiveness among the attorneys and
staff that I have never before experienced. This is due to
Mr. Ashida's positive can do attitude that he imparts to all of the employees.
Although Mr. Ashida has many qualities as a leader, the one quality with which I have
been most impressed is his strong sense of justice and ethical considerations not only to those
employees he supervises, but also to all County employees and to the public. In my opinion, this
is the greatest and most important quality an attorney can possess, especially an attorney who
serves as Hawaii County's corporation counsel.
For the reasons stated above, and other reasons too numerous to include, I respectfully
ask for your support for Mr. Ashida's reconfirmation.
Sincerely,
U
