Dear Planning Committee Chair and Members,
My family has Owned property between Keauhou Bay and. Kealakekua Bay for Over one -
huntlred years. We own approximately 500 acres which extends from the Mamalahoe
Highway down to the ocean. The property has been used primarily for cattle ranching and
coffee farming.
We are posed to our property below the old railroad, or ttte currern new Hokuli'a by-
pass highway, being categorized as "Important Agricultural Land" as is proposed in Draft 1
of the Flew General Flan. s land is steep, rocky and arid. The avarage ralMall is
probably less than 20 irtcttes a year. We have only been able t0 graze cattle On this land
during the wet months when there is some grass. Even this usage has not been profitable
for us. Very little would grow on this land without extensive and expensive Irrigation and
land preparation. "Important AggricuRural land" would be a complete miss categorization of
this area. It is my belief that allland owners who have similar land in this area would agree.
'f7tere is much good agncultt.aal land on the Big Island and this area is not among that type of
land.
We Hope you will take our request into serious consideration.
