Dear Dr. Fred:
Honomu residents were shocked to discover that draft 2 of the General Plan proposed
to change the land use status of a large area near Honomu town from "low density
urban" to "medium density urban."
B-4 Low Density Urban to Medium Density Urban 35 units per acre)
Location: Honomu Pillage
Rad'onale: The area could be developed as a possible retirement community and related
commercial activities.
This is not a suitable or acceptable expansion of Honomu town, and ignores the lack of
adequate infrastructure and area traffic congestion.
The community has not been consulted. It appears that the proposed land area has
always been in agricultural use, would contribute to massive increases in traffic if built
up, and deserves a thorough discussion by the community before any change is
allowed.
How can changes of this magnitude be considered without consulting the community??
Neighbors should have been sent letters advising them of this proposed change.
We sincerely hope the new draft of the General Plan does not include this land use
change.
