RE: Hawaii County General Plan-Draft 3.
Dear Honorable County Councilmembers:
1 live in Kawaihae, on Hawaiian Home Lands, in the South Kohala
district. 1 came before the Council to request "What considerations
this County will make on the issue of impacts from the proposed Super
Ferry that is planned to be hosted by my community-Kawaihae"
1 want to report that 1 was referred to Councilman Pete Hoffman
probably because he represents my district. 1hand-delivered a copy of
my testimony to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) which reflects
the same concerns 1 shared with the Council. That seems to be the
end of that.
This is not satisfactory.
To this end, i have requested that each council member receive a
copy of my testimony to the PUC. 1 believe this is a general public
concern; not only a Hawaiian concern, not only an issue for my
community to discuss, and definitely deserves some r®cognition in the
General Plan as a residential and ~pricultural community.
Therefore, 1 formally regy~t:
1. The issue of the Super Fe/~ry be placed on the next agenda for the
island communities to discusl~.
2. The result from this meeting needs to be addressed as a state
legislative action to suppgs~ the needs of the County.
3. Incorporate recogl~ing Kawaihae as a residential and Z.'3

agricultural community into the General Plan (3.4.6-South Kohala
District Vision Statement). Amendments throughout the General Plan
need to reflect this inclusion.
1 believe that by incorporating the fact that there are residents in
Kawaihae; and that It is a viable growing residential and agricultural
community; Infrastructure planning and design will be Implemented to
better serve the needs of the tax paying residents in Kawaihae.
Kawaihae is not only a Commercial Harbor.
