Dear Angel and Pete:
I write to support your approval of Bill 163, Draft 1 at the Planning Committee meeting on January 4,
2005. The County has waited 15 years for approval of a new General Plan, when we should have
had a new plan in place five years ago. With the new Council, there is hope that we will soon realize
that legally mandated goal.
Although other drafts have been put forward, I believe that Draft 1, having had many public meetings
and a great deal of supportive testimony, is the version to be approved. It is not perfect, but it is far
better than any other option.
Thank you for your willingness to support Draft 1. I look forward to the passage of this General Plan,
so that we can move on to Regional Plans with the level of detail we need to plan sensibly for the
County's future growth. Another important step is coordinating the General and Regional Plans with
the Water Master Plan, currently in development. I look forward to working on subsequent steps
toward a sustainable future.
