To: Councilmember Michael Tulang Vice Chair HSAC, Members of HSAC and Members of
the Hawaii County Council
Topic: HSAC 2005 Legislative Package
Dear Councilmember Tulang,
Please include a request for legislative action to end Hawaii's program of motor vehicle
inspections. Hawaii residents already pay too much to insure, repair, and pay for fuel for, their
vehicles. This inspection program has little or no value in preventing fatalities or injuries to
motorists and pedestrians. It costs residents millions of dollars in a meaningless inspection
program with no tangible increase in safety. Most states that once had this program have
discontinued the program. Let us now give this tax relief to the residents of our state.
Sincerely,
Councilmember Bob Jacobson
