Dear Planning Committee
It has come to our attention that in February 2003 Jude Mattos, then President of the
Honomu Village Association, wrote a letter to the Hawaii County Council supporting
proposed Medium Density Urban expansion in Honomu.
We assume Jude was writing as an individual. (He has since moved to California).
Honomu residents generally support some additional affordable housing in our area.
But many question why our community is being targeted for development of up to 3000
new homes? (Our total population was 541 in the 2000 Census).
We would require information about infrastructure, sewage treatment, access and
marketing plans before any decision about growth could be considered.
The only presentation to HVA concerning this project was made about three years ago
and proposed an assisted living center. The property owner has made no recent effort to
encourage community support for residential development or inform us about his plans.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Logsdon Ernie Jungden
