Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 14, reports as follows:
Communication No. 14, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated December 7, 2004, reappoints
Mr. Lincoln S.T. Ashida as County of Hawaii Corporation Counsel.
Mr. Ashida has served as Corporation Counsel since 2000. Prior to assuming this position, he
served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the County of Hawaii. In that position, he had
extensive trial experience. As Corporation Counsel, he will serve a term to end
December 1, 2008.
Pursuant to Article VI, Section 6-2.2, Hawaii County Charter, "The corporation counsel shall be
appointed by the mayor, confirmed by the council and may be removed by the mayor. The
corporation counsel shall be an attorney licensed to practice and in good standing before the
Supreme Court of the State of Hawai`i."
Communication No. 14.1, transmitted by Corporation Counsel Lincoln S.T. Ashida, dated
December 9, 2004, forwards an updated curriculum vitae.
Your Committee heard testimony in favor to this confirmation from Mayor Harry Kim and
Deputy Corporation Counsel Joe Kamelamela.
Members of Your Committee were in support of the confirmation of Mr. Ashida.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Mr. Lincoln S.T. Ashida as
County of Hawaii Corporation Counsel.
