Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 15, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated
December 7, 2004, reports as follows:
Communication No. 15 recommends the re-appointment of Christopher J. Yuen as the Hawaii County Planning Director
for a co-terminus term with Mayor Harry Kim to end December 1, 2008.
According to Communication No. I5, Mr. Yuen, has served as the Planning Director for the County of Hawaii since
December 2000. Prior to that, he was a private practice Attorney and served two terms as the Hawaii Island Member of
the Board of Land and Natural Resources. Iu addition, Mr. Yuen is a Graduate of the William Richardson School of Law
and has a Masers of Science Degree in Environmental Science.
Communication No. 15 is submitted pursuant to the Hawaii County Charter, Section 6-4.2, which sets the minimum
qualifications for the Planning Director and requires Council confirmation of the Director's appointment.
At today's meeting, Your Committee received testimony in regards to Mr. Yuen's re-appointment. Mayor Harry Kim and
Deputy Planning Director Roy Takemoto both spoke in favor of Mr. Yuen's re-appointment.
During discussion, Members of this Committee commended Mr. Yuen for his service and also spoke in favor of his re-
appointment.
Your Committee on Planning recommends favorably on the re-appointment of Mr. Christopher J. Yuen as the Planning
Director for the County of Hawaii.
