Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication No. 18, reports as follows:
Communication No. 18, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated December 7, 2004, submits for
reappointment Ms. Patricia Engelhard as Director of Parks and Recreation for the County of
Hawaii, pursuant to the County Charter of the County of Hawaii. This reappointment was
effective at noon on December 6, 2004.
Ms. Engelhard has served as Director of Parks and Recreation for the County of Hawaii from
December 4, 2000 to the present and previously from December 1984 to December 1988. Prior
to that she was employed with the County Office of Housing and Community Development.
As Director, Ms. Engelhard will serve a term co-terminous with Mayor Kim's tenure, which will
end on December 1, 2008.
Your Committee, having found that Ms. Engelhard meets the minimum qualifications of
experience in an administrative capacity, as set forth in Article VI, Section 6-3.2, Hawaii
County Charter, and having heard testimony in favor of this reappointment from Mayor Harry
Kim, is in support of the reappointment of Ms. Engelhard.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation recommends the confirmation of the
reappointment of Ms. Patricia Engelhard as Director of Parks and Recreation for the County of
Hawaii.
