She identified the dogs from the picture and said they live at 68-1797 Lina Poe Poe Street. She said the dogs bark all of the time and they have been aggressive to her in her own yard. She said they are always getting loose but she is afraid to say anything to the owners. The house they belong to is in the background of this picture. .ate a e rLi' u..:..£ sp F4 u. A few months ago these same two dogs tried to break through my screen door. They ran into it really hard then ran around the house chasing away my outside cats. My neighbor caught them running loose one day and tied them to her mailbox. Two young men came by in a black pickup truck and took them. Another neighbor said these same dogs ran through her yard and now her cat is missing. A friend that lives on Laie Street saw the picture and said these same dogs broke through her screen door. This is her e-mail to me: > Date: 1 /28/2005 7:58:26 AM > Subject: Dogs > Aloha, The dogs in question were in our front yard on Fri. the 7 of Jan. 2005. I came home from the market and saw them as I pulled into the driveway. They ran around the side to the back yard. I didn't think much of it and began carrying groceries into the house. As I was unloading the groceries in the kitchen there was a commotion on the screened in lanai and the sliding door into the house was open, both the door and screen door. Our two cats that are kept inside all the time were on the lanai and came running into the house followed by the two dogs that had broken through the screen door from the yard onto the lanai. The dogs stopped at the sliding door when I yelled and I chased them back out the way they had come in. I checked on the cats and did not see which direction the dogs went off. Comm. Na Ref. To: PaseW/ G 12~ .Date Charlie's Story Charlie was a feral cat about 2 years old. We trapped him and had him neutered with help from advoCats. He owned me from the first time he let me pet him! He got jealous when the other cats got attention. He was a beautiful cat and he always reminded me of a child dressed in a cat Halloween costume. He would nibble on my knees, arms and toes to get me to pet him and he rolled over for a belly scratch as soon as I put my hand under him. He would meow at my screen doors to get me to come out and he would not eat until I was finished petting him On January 21, 2005 between 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM two dogs viciously "1 attacked my cat Charlie. A concerned neighbor witnessed the attack and went knocking door-to-door to try to find his owners. She said the - f`:. attack was brutal and the kitty did everything he could to get away. The dogs both had hold of Charlie and they were ripping him apart. My neighbor's son scared the dogs away and they dropped Charlie. She said she didn't know where the cat went but she thought he was dead. They chased the dogs and took their picture near Lina Poe Poe Street. We went out with flashlights and saw Charlie struggling up the hill. We could not get to him before he went under the neighbor's deck. They have a large deck with small crawl spaces (not big enough for people) so we could not find him. We waited a few days and still no sign of Charlie. None of the neighbors had seen him but one thought she smelled something coming from the other neighbor's house. I started searching around the two houses with a flashlight. I found him in a crawl space way under my neighbor's deck. He was dead. My neighbors graciously tore apart part of their deck so we could get him out. I buried Charlie on January 26"' on the hillside where he used to hunt. Needless to say I am still very upset about this and miss him terribly. O ~ Atea d u M.y. The Humane Society was supposed to come to Waikoloa on Friday (January 28th) to speak to the dog's owners. I called them after 3:00 PM because I had not heard anything from them. The woman on the phone told me that they just got really busy up in Kohala and didn't make it to Waikoloa. I guess they had not intended on calling me back? This is not acceptable to me! She asked if I wanted to speak to her manager. I said yes please... The manager got on the phone and told me the same thing; they were too busy and had so many calls for Kohala that they couldn't make it to Waikoloa. (I don't understand this attitude; they were really trying to convince me that I should feel sorry for them for having a busy day?) She said they would come out next Tuesday (February 1 st). I said, "What is happening with these dogs in the mean time!" She said they called a neighbor and the dogs are in the yard. (Note: They still have not contacted the Owners) I told her I was going to file a police report in addition to the Humane Society report. She said I should do that. The Police will take care of the issue and give the owner a "Dangerous Dog" citation. She also asked me why I didn't call the Humane Society sooner (as if this hold up was my fault!). I told her because I didn't even know my cat was dead until late Tuesday and I've been gathering evidence to make sure 1 knew who the dogs belonged to! I was doing HER job so they didn't blow me off and say they would do a "sweep of the neighborhood" like they did for the Sperlings. Then, she asked me if I had proof I said yes, 1 have pictures and I have a witness that saw them do it. After we hung up she called me back and warned me that if the Police issued a Dangerous Dog citation the Humane Society would not be able to remove the dog from the yard because the fate of the dogs would be on the court. I still don't understand how this is important because I asked her directly and she told me they would not be able to remove the dogs anyway, just issue a citation. I really felt like I got "attitude" from the Humane Society and they were trying to scare me out of going to court. I moved forward with my Police Complaint. I called the police and they quickly contacted an officer to call me back. I told him about my frustration with dealing with the Humane Society. He said the Humane Society is understaffed but they are the correct people to contact to handle this issue. He was very sympathetic about the incident and the loss of my kitty (finally some sympathy!). He documented my call "for the record". By the time I got off the phone with the police, the Humane Society was closed. I'm not even sure now if they are going to come to Waikoloa on Tuesday (because they think the police are taking care of it). I'm going to call the Humane Society again on Tuesday. On .Tanuary 28th I went to the Waikoloa Village Association office and they said they couldn't do anything about this. 'T'hey said to file a police report. They did however give me a preview copy of the February Waikoloa Breeze. The Letter To The Editor is a similar story! Two dogs attacked the cat in it's own backyard. I contacted the people who wrote the letter and sent them a picture of the dogs. She called me back and said her witness said although the dogs fit the description (I think too similar to be a coincidence) she would have to see the dogs in person to be sure. She said the dogs looked bigger in the picture. So here we are, early Saturday morning a week after the incident and the owners have yet to been contacted. No wonder people give up or take matters into their own hands. I'm totally exhausted dealing with this issue and I just want to mourn my kitty and put it behind me. I saw another missing cat flyer for a cat on Lina Poe Poe Street. If my neighbor had not told me what happened to my cat he would havejust been "missing" too. Maybe I would have been better off not knowing what happened... The Waikoloa Village Homeowner's Association won't do anything except tell you to file a Police Report. The Humane Society is "under staffed" and does not have time to do anything. The Police Department puts the responsibility back on the Humane Society. We will soon be moving to Hawaiian Paradise Park in Keaau. People tell me that HPP has packs of wild dogs. Okay, I'll deal with that, at least it's a remote area and I know how to trap cats and dogs! Who would have imagined that Waikoloa Village has dangerous dogs running wild terrorizing neighborhoods? Why do we have CC&R's? What about the Leash Law?
