Dear Chairman Safarik and Vice Chairman Jacobson,
The Big Island Farm Bureau is composed of Hamakua County, Kohala County, Hilo County and
Kona County of the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation. These four organizations represent all
commodities of the agricultural industry on the Island of Hawaii and collectively have a current
base of more than 425 members.
On January 24, 2005, the Board of Directors of the Big Island Farm Bureau voted to support
Bill 163, Draft 5 in its present form and without further revisions. Ever since the General Plan
revision process began in September 2000, the Big Island Farm Bureau has been actively involved in
providing input to various County Council committees, the County Planning Commission and to
various County Departments.
The Big Island Farm Bureau extends its mahalo to the County Council, County Planning
Department, County Planning Commission and to all the individuals and organizations whom have
given input and taken this revision of the General Plan from Draft 1 through to Draft 5.
In closing, the Big Island is in dire need of an updated General Plan and therefore the Big
Island Farm Bureau implores the members of the County Council to adopt Bill 163, Draft 5 today.
Sincerely,
Howard T. Yamasaki
President
