RE: Nomination to the Hawaii State Association of Counties (HSAC) Special
Committee on Solid Waste Management Committee
A nomination to the Hawai `i State Association of Counties (HSAC) Special Committee
on Solid Waste Management Committee is needed due to a vacancy created with the departure of
Mike Tulang. [would like this matter to be considered by the Council at its next meeting on
February 16, 2005.
I believe Bob Jacobson would be a willing and able member of this Committee. Your
consideration of this appointment is appreciated.

Please respond to Calvin Azama regarding attendance by your
representative and have a letter done appointing your Councilmember to
the Committee for the Feb. 11th HSAC Executive Committee Meeting.
Connie, We have committed to doing the HSAC Year-End Conference in June
according to Councilmember Tokioka in follow-up to the conference held
last week on Timeshares.

Subject: HSAC Solid Waste Special Committee Meeting
Cyndi and Richelle:
We would like to have the HSAC Solid Waste Special Committee
come to Oahu for site visits on February 24 or 25. The site visits will
take up most of the day.
We will work with Rene Mansho on the sites to visit. Since the
neighbor island counties are especially interested in the abandoned
vehicle problem, we thought a visit to Rene's auto shredder plant would
be good. Other sites also will be selected.
We don't want to hold the Special Committee meeting on Feb 11
after the Exec Committee meeting. That would not give us enough time
for the site visits.
Let me know if Feb 25 or Feb 24 is OK. Personally, I would
prefer Feb 25 since that is a Friday and the site visits would be more
relaxing. If a later date is preferable to you guys, let me know.

RE: Request to Waive Consideration of Nomination to the Hawaii State Association of Counties
(HSAC) Special Committee on Solid Waste Management to the Full Council
Pursuant to Section 1(g) of Rule 4 of the Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawaii, I request
your support for waiver of this matter from my Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental
Relations for consideration and approval by the full Council at its next scheduled meeting on February 16,
2005.
Enclosed is a memorandum dated February 1, 2005, from Calvin Azama, HSAC Staff Member,
requesting our Council's consideration of a nomination to the Hawaii State Association of Counties
Special Committee on Solid Waste Management. Action requested: Nomination of Council Member
Bob Jacobson to the HSAC Special Committee on Solid Waste Management to the Full Council.
Action to nominate members is recommended by the HSAC staff by February 24, 2005. It is therefore
advantageous that approval is granted for this matter to be placed onto the next Council agenda for
review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be
referred to the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations for placement on its future
agenda.
